ABOUT HUMANITY EXPLORATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
In traditional schools, students are often discouraged to discover their natural talents and are restricted to absorbing knowledge from textbooks. But at our school, we focus on respecting, trusting, and guiding students based on their current conditions to help them plan their own curriculums and give access to endless possibilities. As a self-learning group, our success of achieving self-management is directly linked to how our system works: incorporating a democratic system that promotes student participation in group affairs while ensuring we have a friendly educational environment.
Besides the course outline provided, students have individual study sessions which we call Project/Problem-Based Learning (PBL): students target at a specific skill or aspect they would like to acquire or improve, and are given the privilege to optionally select and adjust their timetables. Our principal constantly reminds us to be proud of being Taiwanese, and we embrace Chinese culture into our lifestyle by practicing martial arts or mastering Chinese traditional instruments. At the end of each quarter, students are required to present the results over a 10 week period to all classmates and student parents.
Our school's main attraction and distinct feature is either theme or location based Mobile Learning Trips, which are held multiple times throughout the school year in different scales. Students are in charge of preparing the entire project's details, and everyone is distributed equal responsibility to lead in multiple fields such as finance, transportation, lodging, tour guides...etc. Group, team, and personal goals are established to enhance our unique learning memories, and while we experience living away from our homes 24/7, we push the boundaries of our comfort zones to cultivate important life skills and show determination of surviving in unknown conditions as an individual.
